Urban Vault caught up with Staten Island, New York-based emcee Prema777 to ask her some questions about debut track/visual NOTHING FREE, and more…
Prema777, a native Staten Islander took interest in Hip Hop at an early age. Her older siblings immersed her in music as she was entering adolescence. Music was also the light that kept her going when that same family went through trials & tribulations. As Prema grew she began to gain confidence in her artistic abilities. However, it wasn’t until her father, who has since moved on to the next existence, gave her encouragement that she was able to really spark the match that ignited the fire in her heart for Hip Hop. Through perseverance & relentless determination, Prema777 has harnessed an eclectic vibe in her sound, with deep roots in boom bap & soul.
What is your name?
Prema777
Where are you from?
Staten Island, New York.
How long have you been making music?
I’ve been writing songs since a kid but professionally recording for 10 years now.
How many songs/albums have you released to date?
I have a few songs and features out on iTunes, multiple singles on my SoundCloud (Prema777), 1 EP project ‘Poetic Premonition’ (found on SoundCloud as well).
And currently about to drop my debut LP ‘Take Flight’ in December of which I recently dropped the first single for ‘Nothing Free’ (check the video out on YouTube and stream it on iTunes).
Can you tell us more about your latest project ‘Nothing Free’?
My latest project ‘Nothing Free’, produced by J.Glaze, is a single to my upcoming album ‘Take Flight’. The concept is a metaphor for investing in your light and growth. Check out the visual directed by MrHawkins below.
Who have you collaborated with so far in your Career?
A handful of talented human beings, but I’m pretty hyped about my Nitty Scott collab that’s about to drop on ‘Take Flight’.
Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
I would love to work with Lady Bug Mecca she’s one of my favourites, but there are so many others and with different styles & types of artists too like Doja Cat (she’s a super ill Cali emcee and singer who got this pop twist esoteric playful n funky flow.) I think there’s very few I’d turn down so pretty much always open and looking forward to working with different types of artists.
What inspires you when you make your music?
Everything but I think hardship and sadness are when my creativity shines brightest but I pull inspiration from all places happy, depressed, excitement, weirdness, to me everything is art and i always see the beauty in it. I guess its the hunger in me.
How have you ended up in the music industry?
I don’t think I we end up anywhere. We always work to get where we are. I’m dedicated and loyal to my craft. I do what feels right and don’t give up especially on passion. Wherever that road takes me is up to the universe but my music is the sole controller.
What do you think of the music industry in 2018?
Not quite sure bc there are a few different perceptions. I feel there’s a lot of hope, and respect for the art is slowly coming back into play with informative platforms like blog sites like yourselves and podcasts like Drink Champs. We still have a long way to go but the beauty of the internet is we can push our own creativity through independent sources and don’t have to be so reliant on labels and the commercialism.
What have you got planned for 2018/19?
The album ‘Take Flight’ is about to finalized and my fiancé and I are expecting our first newborn around the same time so we got wonderful blessings to finish the year off with. I’m also finishing strong with performing and pushing promo for the album while my team and I are planning for an East Coast Tour in 2019.
What’s your favourite track at the moment?
‘Immigrants’ by Belly.
What do you do when your not making music?
Read, meditate, exercise, explore, build businesses, pretty much anything that helps me unwind or expand depending on my mode. I love continuously building and elevating.
Facebook or Twitter?
