Urban Vault Interviews - Salomé

Urban Vault Interviews – Salomé

Urban Vault caught up with Zürich, Switzerland based vocalist/producer Salomé to ask her some questions about her music and more…

Salomé is a solo vocalist and producer breaking boundaries and creating a disrupt from Switzerland. Teaming up with New York-based label Nah Bro Entertainment, which is notorious for releasing underground Hip Hop artists, this beauty is not afraid to break the rules. Salomé is showing the music industry that you can be a badass while hitting a high note, literally. In an industry filled with one-dimensional artists, this lyricist stands out for her versatility. She transcends all music genres and refuses to conform and be labeled. She’s a little street, a little Jazz, but has the ability to bellow Opera music over all that noise that dictates how she should be defined. She may not be listening, but she is certainly singing.

What is your name?

Salomé is my legal name given by my parents. I wasn’t sure to use my name at first as my artist name because a lot of people pronounce it wrong, but then I figured I should give them a reason to pronounce it correctly.

Where are you from?

I am from Switzerland.

How long have you been making music?

I have always made music, I sang in a youth choir, played the violin and the clarinet in primary school and I have been writing music since my early teens. I also recorded and performed in my teens but been seriously recording I started in 2012 after I met Sean Strange. Right now I am working on a daily basis, not only on my own music but also as a high school music teacher.

How many songs/albums have you released to date?

My first release was the song ‘Losing Streak’ featuring Sean Strange on his album ‘Truth Serum’. Snowgoons fans may recognize my voice from the vocals of ‘Cardiac Rhythm’ released in 2013 or ‘Live Your Life’ off the album ‘Black Snow 2’. In 2015 I released my debut album ‘The Princess Of Pain’ a versatile project featuring Sean
Strange, Corey Joseph and Swifty McVay from D12. In the last couple of years, I’ve contributed vocals for projects such as ‘The Underworld 2’ by Reel Wolf featuring Ill Bill and Sean Strange, the label collaboration ‘Everything is Nah Bro’, ‘Lunar Cypher – Volume 1’ and many more.

Tell us more about your latest project?

My latest project is a five-song EP called ‘Colors Of My Mind‘ fully produced and written by myself. It comes from a dark place in my soul and is definitely the most personal work I have done so far. I refuse to put my music into one genre but the best way to describe this project is the following: Melancholic trip-hop influenced instrumentals to underline eerie and melodic vocals creating an obscure and hypnotic atmosphere with unorthodox structures and choruses.

Who have you collaborated with so far in your Career?

I have had lots of collaborations with Sean Strange, Snowgoons and Corey Joseph. Besides that I have songs with Swifty McVay from D12, Ill Bill, Large Professor, Big KO, JackSwan and many more. I also organized a worldwide collaboration album of women from different countries called ‘Lunar Cypher’.

Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?

I would love to sit down with Linda Perry and write a song together.

What inspires you when you make your music?

Life and Emotions

How have you ended up in the music industry?

I met Sean Strange back in 2011 at a concert in Switzerland. We got close on a personal level and after a while, I told him about my passion for music. He brought me to the Stonebrown Studio’s in Brooklyn and supported me in recording my debut album. 8 years later we live together in Switzerland and run our own record label called Nah Bro Entertainment.

What do you think of the music industry in 2019?

It’s interesting…

What have you got planned for 2019?

This year I will release a mixtape ‘Energy, Power, Passion’ as well as my second solo album ‘Screaming in Silence’.

What’s your favorite track at the moment?

That is impossible to answer. I could never decide on one favorite track.

What do you do when you’re not making music?

As I mentioned above, I am a part-time high school teacher and there is always plenty of work to get done for our label Nah Bro Entertainment.

In a few words sum up your thoughts about Urban Vault and what we’re trying to do?

Support brings people closer together and we need more of this in this world!

Thank you for your time and may you carry on making dope, fresh music….

Thank You as well!

Her newest single ‘Blame Me’ certainly reflects her inventive mind as she teamed up with the Snowgoons. She has been working and touring with the German production team for over 6 years but for the first time, she releases a solo song produced by the Goons. Snowgoons fans may know her from the classic ‘Cardiac Rhythm’ featuring Sean Strange where her vocals dominate the chorus. The song ‘Blame Me’ is a premiere in the underground scene since the Snowgoons have never produced a single for a female singer. A great combination of powerful vocals with a head knock Hip Hop feel. The lyrics tell a relatable story of constant let down, betrayal and of its acceptance.
