Urban Vault Interviews – ArOzA Crew

Urban Vault caught up with Munich, Germany-based ArOzA Crew to ask them some questions about their recent track KILLIN’ ME SOFTLY & more…

What‘s Realness? Realness is a lifestyle, an attitude towards life. It is the essence of what Hip Hop is all about. Unfortunately, this realness has been nearly completely lost in the last few years and is only rarely found in recent productions. One wack song followed by another is released to generate plays and to enter the charts.

The Realness, the values, the art, and the soul of this African American culture is being sold for a few euros. ArOzA are now stepping into the ring to revive Hip Hop with realness. The Rappers D.T.O, marlonhil, and Jahcrast are joined by DJ Rude Teen and formed the Rap band ArOzA Crew in the summer of 2017.

What is your name?

ArOzA Crew. We are the rappers marlonhil, D.T.O, Jahcrast alongside DJ Rude Teen.

Where are you from?

Munich City, Germany.

Tell us about the Hip Hop scene in your hometown?

Compared to the size of Munich, the Hip Hop scene is pretty small. There are a lot of talented people here but the connection is still lacking. But from what people told us, Munich used to be one of the dopest places for HipHop in Germany due to the American Military Base, which was closed a long time ago. There were quite some Bands that made an impact, national and international, like Square One, Abstract Art, and Main Concept, just to mention a few worth checking out.

How long have you been making music?

Each of us separately was making music for kind of forever, specially our DJ who is an old-school dude who released his first record in 1995. But as a crew, we formed in 2017.

Tell us more about your latest track/visual ‘Killin’ Me Softly’?

A friend of ours from Berlin, Grandson House, showed up at our place and we just started freestyling on a new Beat marlonhil made the other day. The song was finished quickly because we where improvising a lot. Same with the video. Fatih from mingofilms, the director of the Video and friend of ours, came up with the idea with the telly but without any script. So we just improvised some shots. Everything very spontanious.

Who have you collaborated with so far in your Career?

Recently Rece Miller, also marlonhil’s Cousin from Manchester Mustaqu Ali is the unoffical 5th member of the Crew. But also with local cats like raiwun, Lil Saze, Sazo, Manekin Peace, pressure don’t kill, martn, NTVjackson and a few others.

Our DJ. Rude Teen owns his own label (Beat Art Department) and was signed to Compost Records back in the 90s, so he was working with tons of people around the world.

Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?

Kendrick Lamar, Joey Badass, Q-Tip, Freddie Gibbs, Greentea Peng, Sampa the Great, Earthgang, Griselda, Tokimonsta, Channel Tres, the list is kinda endless…

What inspires you when you make your music?

The way you can express your feelings with it and just putting a whole project together in general is an inspiration. Also when we write rhymes together we inspire each other.

How have you ended up in the music industry?

We just started to rap and make songs. The rest followed.

What do you think of the music industry in 2020?

Industry rule number 4080

What have you got planned for 2021?

Hustling. Showing the world what we got.

Hopefully, do shows again and release a lot of projects.

What’s your favorite track at the moment?

Little Simz – 101FM
D Nice – 25 Ta Life
