Urban Vault Interviews – Geekster The SuperNerd

Urban Vault caught up with Mississippi-based recording artist Geekster The SuperNerd to ask him some questions about his debut ten-track album DEATH STAR, & more…

Lawrence ‘Geekster the SuperNerd’ Luton, an independent artist from Belzoni, Mississippi, is one of very few artists that record Nerdcore Hip Hop and is determined to use his music to promote self-love, regardless of your social status and background. In 2014, after releasing his first song, ‘A Fool For Love’ on SoundCloud, it was made known to his peers as well as most of the citizens of Belzoni that he had the potential to be a great artist. Taking note of the admiration he was receiving, he dedicated himself to releasing even more music.

Since 2014, he has released 10 songs exclusively to SoundCloud, including ‘Feds Watching’, ‘Give Me My Verdict’, and ‘The Wrath of Hanzo Hasashi’. On July 22nd, 2021, Geekster released his debut project, ‘Death Star’, which is not only on SoundCloud but on all streaming platforms. Using Facebook and Instagram, Geekster the SuperNerd has been drawing attention to the music he releases. He also has been gaining attention from his project, ‘Death Star’ thanks to social media.

Known for writing music that is heartfelt and which he considers ‘Food For Thought’ using anime, video games, comic books, and science fiction references, Geekster brings an unorthodox sound to songs like ‘Black Republicans’, ‘Jedi Council’ and ‘Red LightSabers’. With the purpose of encouraging nerds, geeks, and other social groups that society has labeled ‘Misfits’, Geekster the SuperNerd is unapologetically true to who he is in every song he releases.

Geekster The SuperNerd presents his debut ten-track album ‘Death Star‘. Discussing political topics, mainly the presidential term of Donald Trump, Geekster uses STAR WARS as the album’s theme and consists of original instrumental tracks from south Africa-based producer Created By DNA.

What is your name?

My name is Geekster the SuperNerd.

Where are you from?

I am from Belzoni, Mississippi in the United States of America.

How old are you?

I am 29 years old

How long have you been making music?

I’ve been writing music ever since I was 13 years old and recording music for 8 years.

How many songs/albums have you released to date?

I have released 23 songs, 10 singles, and one project that consists of 10 songs on streaming platforms and 13 on SoundCloud.

Can you tell us about your new ten-track album ‘Death Star’, the background, and the inspirations behind it?

My debut project is entitled ‘Death Star’. It’s a project that discusses political topics using Star Wars references (which I think is pretty awesome). The background of the project stems from how I felt about the presidential term of Donald Trump. I always wanted my first project, be it a mixtape or album to be political. I recalled learning about politics in history class in high school. When I first heard about the Republican party, I immediately thought about the Sith from Star Wars. That memory struck inspiration within me and that’s how ‘Death Star’ came to be.

Who have you collaborated with so far in your career?

I have collaborated with my classmate/close friend GDL Got Betta Bass, my cousin Jay Mullen and Da Rap Nerd. These are underground artists that are making names for themselves.

Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?

I would love to collaborate with Boosie BadAzz, Don Trip, Common, Kendrick Lamar, and J Cole since they’re my favorite artists. I would also like to work with Nas and the Wu-Tang Clan because their style of music influences my own.

How have you ended up in the music industry?

Well, I wouldn’t say I’m in the industry just yet. But I made it very far by working rigorously on my lyrics, concepts for my music, performing at showcases whenever possible and presenting my music to individuals that instantly loved it, and paying respect to them as well as others that started supporting me along the way.

What do you think of the music industry in 2021?

If I may be blunt, I think that the music industry is focusing more on gimmicks than lyrical prowess. Some of the biggest names in hip hop in this new generation have no heart, soul or mind when it comes to the concept of their music (depending on if their music even has a concept) and the only thing that makes popular, is not their music but the scandals they get involved in.

What have you got planned for the rest of 2021?

For the rest of 2021, I will be releasing more music. I will be releasing an EP consisting of 5 tracks, an intro, an interlude, and an outro which will be called ‘Art of Fighting’ on September 24th, and then I will release a project of approximately 15 songs entitled ‘Final Fight’.

What inspires you when you make your music?

My personal experiences are one of the factors that inspire me to make my music. The main things that inspire me when I make music are the video games that I play or have played as well as the anime and comic books that I have enjoyed since childhood and anime and comic books that I read now.

What’s your favorite track at the moment?

Currently, my favorite song, in general, is ‘Black Republicans’ from my project, ‘Death Star’. It holds a stern message: true politicians are loyal to their country, not the president.

What do you do when you are not making music?

When I’m not making music, I spend that time looking for new anime to watch, new video games to purchase, and spending time with my fiance and daughter.

Which do you prefer, Facebook or Twitter, or Instagram?

I actually prefer Instagram. I feel that it’s far more useful to me because I have a bigger audience on Instagram than Facebook and Twitter combined.

In a few words sum up your thoughts about Urban Vault and what we’re trying to do?

Urban Vault UK is an amazing promotion company. They show love, respect and if they see worth and potential in your music then they will stand behind it. I feel that what you all are trying to do is beautiful and it will only become bigger and prosperous as you work with artists of various backgrounds.

Thank you for your time and may you carry on making dope, fresh music…
