Urban Vault Exclusive: Bish – 999 (Audio Premiere)

South London based Drill emcee Bish drops his debut track 999

A new voice is emerging from the depths of Croydon, a self-proclaimed ‘legend of the streets’, who claims to be South London’s finest export since Michael Caine. A mature Drill rapper of unknown age, who refers to himself only by the name Bish, says he sees a reflection of himself and his life in the dark, violent nihilism of the Drill sound.

“Listen, mate, I don’t need to tell you about Bish. The streets tell the story of Bishy here”.

He constantly refers to himself in the third person and speaks in a heavy, distinct London accent, occasionally punctuated by a nervous laugh.

“I’ve spent a lifetime ducking and diving, surviving by the skin of my teeth and always on the wrong side of the thin blue line. It’s time for me to tell my stories, and to be totally fucking honest, I’m probably the best rapper to have ever come out of this country”.

A bold statement for a man releasing only his first song, the dramatically titled ‘999’ on Soundcloud. But Bish claims to have a plethora of material ready for release.

“Listen, son, you get more fucking content in one of my songs than most of these cunts manage in an entire album. I’ve got a lifetime’s worth of tales to tell. Most of these twats are still wet behind the ears”.

He’s certainly full of colourful language to match his ambitious bragging.

“You’re gonna be seeing and hearing a lot more of Bishy”,

he says, with a pointed finger.

“I’m here to show these boys how it’s done. By the time I’m finished in the game, I’ll be spoken of in the same breath as fucking Tupac, Biggie, and Bizarre from D12″.

When asked who his main influences are he cites, Chas & Dave, The Kray Brothers and Tupac Shakur.

A colourful mix, which somehow seems to reflect the enigmatic nature of this new arrival.

We shall watch from the sidelines with interest.
