Urban Vault caught up with Hamburg, Germany-based DJ C.S.P. to ask him some questions about his recently released album MASTER THE SESSION & more…
This record truly is an emotional work of art in every detail and definitely a collector’s item for all vinyl lovers: Three limited OBI editions, unique bloodline fingerprint test pressings, colored or black double heavyweight vinyl, debossed title stamps, and a high-quality eight-page booklet.
What’s the name of your crew and where are you from?
Hey, whassup!? I go by the name DJ C.S.P. and my crew is STILLaFAM based on the title of my first album ‘STILLaFAN’. I was born and raised in Hildesheim/Hiltown Germany and since 2005 I live in Hamburg.
Tell us about the Hip Hop scene in Hamburg?
Hamburg is known for Hip Hop with good vibes, fun, and a lot of musicality. A lot of great artists and DJs live here in Hamburg and for me, it is also one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. Because of my STILLaFAN vinyl, also great friendships and collaborations with people from all over the world have grown and this has already resulted in many international features.
How long have you been making music?
Thanks to my father, who was a musician and music teacher himself, I’ve been making music all my life. I started playing drums in my early childhood and played for about 20 years before my love for djing completely took over.
Recently you released your second full-length album ‘Master The Session’, give us some details on this project.
In February 2019, shortly before the STILLaFAN release, I lost my father aka Papa Bear, way too early. I had a vision and just followed the path of my heart to produce this record as a tribute to him. The escape into music and the production of this album gave me strength and new courage to face life. To compensate for the loss and my grief by making music has given me the feeling to be close to my dad.
The album is not only available on digital platforms but also strictly limited vinyl editions with opulent artworks. How important is vinyl to you as a DJ and Hip Hop fan in general in 2021?
As a DJ and collector, vinyl is of course very essential. That’s exactly why I like to produce vinyls myself. Listening to a vinyl while reading the cover and enjoying the artwork means everything to me. That’s why my vinyl albums come with so many details. Everything has a meaning and is one with my vision. Unfortunately, the digital media doesn’t manage to transport my story completely. You have to hold the album in your hands to experience all the emotions and the message behind it.
What and who inspires you when making music?
Life itself inspires me. Music, movies, art, and the stories of other people inspire me. But also the collaboration with other musicians is always a pure inspiration.
Plans for 2022?
Not really yet. I prefer to make noise when I have something I can relate to. I wish my colleagues and me that we will get more live bookings again.
Your favorite track at the moment?
Sorry, but I have to name three faves:
Plastic – 3 Amigos
Bronx Slang – Run Away Sucker
Salaam Remi – Is It Because I’m BlackWhat do you do when you don´t make music?
When it's not about making music, it’s all about cooking and good food. I recently discovered baking bread for myself and that helps me to focus my thoughts on something else for a while.
Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter?
Instagram…
