Urban Vault Interviews – RedEyeBlue

Urban Vault caught up with Cincinnati-based emcee Boogie Bang & Vienna, Austria-based producer e.kwality aka RedEyeBlue to ask them some questions about their cross Atlantic connection, their latest release & more…

4732,363 miles is the distance between those places where Boogie Bang and e.kwality were born and raised. While Boogie Bang crafted the art of emceeing and beat-making in the heart of Cincinnati, Ohio, e.kwality is straight outta Austria, from St. Pölten to be exact. A small city where he was able to focus on beat-making, DJing, and turntablism. The duo recently linked up with the mighty Fashawn from Grizzly City a.k.a. Fresno, CA for their laidback smooth jam titled ‘We Here‘, which comes with a remix by Austria’s finest Flip.

What’s your name?

We are RedEyeBlue and consist of the rapper, producer, and artist Boogie Bang and the DJ and producer e.kwality.

Where are you from?

We are from planet earth, more specifically, Boogie Bang is from Cincinnati, Ohio and e.kwality represents St. Pölten, Austria.

What’s the Hip Hop scene like in Austria and Cincinnati?

There is a lot of talent and up-and-coming artists in both cities. The scene is small which allows you to collaborate quickly. Due to the manageable scene within the cities, the artists can develop pretty well and create their own unique sound.

Cincinnati has a lot of great artists such as Hi-Tek, ISWHAT?!, SOS (Citoak and Kyle David from Five Deez), DJ Rare Groove, CJ the Cynic, Apryl Reign, Mr. Dibbs, Main Flow, and the list goes on and on.

Austria also has some dope Hip Hop artists such as Flip and Texta, Chill-Ill, AMRBTZ, DJ Sticky, Osive the Producer, Ziko the Baker, matin.pz, Saiko, and many more.

There is a distance of thousands of kilometers between both of you. How did you meet each other and come up with the idea to form RedEyeBlue?

We met through a mutual friend who e.kwality met on a train ride from Vienna to St. Pölten. Napoleon Solo from ISWHAT?!. He just introduced us after hearing some beats from e.kwality. He thought we would be a good match and he was more than right. Boogie Bang came up with the name and we became family.

How is your workflow to bridge the gap over the Atlantic?

We keep it pretty simple. We send files via dropbox, mail, and wetransfer and keep on working from that. Boogie Bang is really fast in writing rhymes and recording his vocals. As soon as e.kwality has all files we keep on building and finishing the songs.

How long have you been making music?

Together? Well, it feels like forever but it’s been 10 years for sure. Boogie Bang has been making music a little longer 😁.

Recently you released the single ‘We Here’ featuring Fashawn! How did you connect and give us some insights on the collaboration with him?

It was an exciting and very good collaboration. Fashawn is very fast, professional, and focused. We definitely loved working with him. e.kwality sent the idea with the recorded stems by Boogie Bang and Fashawn picked it up and finished the song. The track was mixed and mastered in Linz by Flip.

What and who inspires you when making music?

Boogie Bang: Momo, that’s e.kwality’s son.

e.kwality: my wife Karo, Momo, Boogie Bang and STE, well my fam.

Any upcoming releases for 2022?

Most definitely. We will definitely release some more singles with great features within 2022. Stay tuned

Your favorite track at the moment?

Boogie Bang: Dave Matthews Band – All Along The Watchtower

e.kwality: Black Star – Definition and J Cole – Amari

What do you do when you don’t make music?

Boogie Bang: art, paint collage and photography and watching Star Wars.

e.kwality: spending time with my family and friends, shooting some hoops, and watching anime and Star Wars.
