Imagine that a brand new, mystical, stop-motion world has opened up. Alligators, flamingos, tiny elephants with big hearts, oranges, vast seas, and frigid, tall glaciers all around. Oh, and it’s all located in space. The only man brave enough to charter these unknown and magical terrains, Rap legend Lyrics Born (LB) on his magic flying carpet, of course! Not only has he dropped his brand new, 14th album, ‘Vision Board‘, but he also released his new stop-motion, clay-animated video for ‘Alligator Boots‘.
“Jesse Hughes directed and filmed the stop-motion video based on the storyline of the song. He is brilliant,” says LB. “He collaborated with the genius artist Leanne ‘Elrod’ Rodriguez who handcrafted the amazing resin props to create the ‘set,’ This is by far one of the best videos that I’ve ever made”.
“It feels amazing now that Vision Board is out. To think of all the changes that the world and I have gone through over the past three years, and to come out on the other side with a renewed sense of self, and artistic momentum with my 14th album is so energizing” continues LB. “My project from this Spring, Mobile Homies: Season 1, was an informal and eclectic collection of songs with friends. ‘Vision Board’ is a whole other kettle of fish. It’s an (in)proper, theme-based fantasy ride, all produced by Rob Mercurio (Galactic, Joe Jackson)”.
With a new album, a new physical presence (He lost 65 pounds, going from 220 to 155), and a new outlook on life, Lyrics Born isn’t planning on slowing down any time soon. In fact, he’s ready to take on the music world in a way he’s never done before.
“This and future projects wouldn’t be possible without our health. And when I say health, yes, of course, the physical is very important, but mental and spiritual health is important as well. We spend a lot of time talking about the future, but without our health, we have no future, and our experiences in the present are severely limited as well”, explains LB.
As the first Asian-American solo rapper to perform at Lollapalooza and Coachella and to release a greatest-hits record, Lyrics Born has broken through countless barriers to cement his storied and illustrious career. Having been part of the Quannum Projects collective of Hip Hop artists from the San Francisco Bay Area that spawned such lyrical luminaries as Blackalicious, Lateef the Truthspeaker, Lifesavas, and DJ Shadow, among many others, Lyrics Born established himself firmly among the upper echelon of indie Hip Hop artists. He has also expanded his empire into film, including roles in Boots Riley’s critically-acclaimed ‘Sorry To Bother You’ and the aforementioned Netflix film ‘Always Be My Maybe’ starring comedian Ali Wong, Randall Park, and Keanu Reeves.
“No matter what is happening in your life or the world, lead with happiness and imagination. There is always more road and runway to explore and lead”, concludes LB.
