Urban Vault Interviews – King T3Z

Urban Vault caught up with Chicago-based emcee King T3Z to ask him some questions after the release of his latest track GROWNMAN BUSINESS, featuring Pe$o, produced by Emmy-nominated producer Rick Tha Rular

King T3Z presents the music video for his latest single ‘GrownMan Business’, his collaboration with rapper PE$O. Produced by Emmy-nominated producer Rick Tha Rular (who also directed the video), ‘Business’ will appear on PE$O’s forthcoming EP ‘Empty The Clip’. ‘GrownMan Business’ comes on the heels of visuals for his 2022 single/video release ‘Slide Season‘ which again was produced by Rick Tha Rular.

Born Jocqui Martez Wardell, King’s style was influenced by artists such as J Cole, The Game, and Meek Mill. Even though he considers himself an old soul and respects the ones who paved the way for the Rap scene, he also relates to the new wave and trend of music.

“I want to bridge the gap between the O.G. artists and the young artists to show that you don’t have to follow the path that’s laid and can create your own”, says King.

His future goals are to make an impact on the music industry and leave an everlasting imprint. King says the inspiration behind ‘Slide Season’ was,

“Creating a storyline based off 3 records I recorded. ‘Big Homie’, ‘Slide Season’ and the last record ‘Dead People’, ‘Dead People’ is not out yet but once that comes out it will all make sense”.

‘GrownMan Business’ is out now on StarStarStrukk Productionz.

What’s the meaning behind your stage name?

The meaning behind my name is that I feel like I’m a King in spirit and mind. My middle name is Martez, so Tez comes from the end of my middle name. So when you put them together you have “KING T3Z”. I changed the “E” to a “3” because I wanted my name to stand out more.

Your video shares a slice of Chicago hood flavor. What’s the situation in Chicago hoods this year?

Chicago is all about getting money and trying to set the trend for the world. Chicago itself is MIDWEST which I feel we don’t get the respect overall in the music industry. That’s why I do my best to show/share that to the world through music as much as possible. When it comes to Chicago hoods the community is doing their best to keep positive energy to support.

You and Rick Tha Rular do a lot of work together. How did this partnership begin and evolve?

The connection comes naturally because Rick is my uncle. But, the partnership evolved when I felt it was time to take it up a notch and take the music shit seriously. Rick told me to prove to him that I want this. I sent him 20 songs and even hopped on a 5 hour train ride to show my dedication. Our partnership has only gotten better by the way we both
have a love for music. Our partnership now is so strong nothing can stop us and I know it.

What’s the most important lesson you learned this year?

The most important lesson I learned this year is hard work gets you the results you want. Even when you think that nobody is watching, there’s always people keeping tabs on your career. Also I learned how to be patient with music because it doesn’t happen overnight. Another important lesson is to stay constant because you can’t get lazy in this business. It is always someone willing to take your spot of change to shine.

What are your plans for 2023?

My plans for 2023 is to keep raising my profile in the business. Come out with more music, increase my streams, have major features, and to release my debut full-length project, When Pigs Fly TBA. Also, my plans for 2023 is to start doing shows, and interviews and be more active so my fans can get to know me better as a person. also, my plan is to have a #1 record on the top 100 billboard.
