Cryptic One is an MC/producer from Brooklyn, NY that has been making and releasing hip hop music for well over 20 years. Over the course of his career, he has produced tracks & remixes for various artists including MF DOOM, Cannibal Ox, Aesop Rock, Blueprint, Illogic, Atoms Fam, and Hangar 1.
Cryptic has always been known for his cinematic sound, so it’s no surprise that in 2015 he landed his first film scoring opportunity in the form of the critically acclaimed hip hop documentary Adult Rappers. Not only did he produce the original score for the film, but he was also interviewed and featured in the film alongside such talents as Jarobi from A Tribe Called Quest, Bobbito, Masta Ace, Homeboy Sandman (Stones Throw), RA The Rugged Man, MURS, Slug (Atmosphere), J-Zone, and many other indy Hip Hop mega stars. Last year, he also had the honor of having FACT Magazine name one of his most loved and acclaimed productions, Atoms Family ‘The Prequel’, as 54th on their list of the ‘100 Best Indie Hip Hop Records of all time’.
At present, Cryptic is working on multiple projects, including his first full length instrumental LP titled ‘Solace in Solitude’, a second project dubbed ‘peloverde’ which has Cryptic on the boards and female vocalist, Poozy of Embarazada & Arrow on the mic, and lastly ‘Pirata’ which will have Cryptic back on the mic over longtime collaborator Jestoneart’s beats.
Attention music lovers! The 11th installment of Cryptic One’s ‘Crypstramentals’ beat tapes is finally here! Volume 11 is comprised of beats directly from the 2nd season of his Beataday project, which found Cryptic releasing a 15 second beat/video via social media every day for 100 days straight.
Volume 11 is a creatively extended version, consisting of 10 beats selected from the first half of those produced for Beataday Season 2. The Beataday project came to fruition for Cryptic initially as a personal challenge to himself to kickstart his own creative process, but over time it has evolved into so much more. At its core he has discovered an invaluable lesson; that waiting for inspiration to fall from the sky is wasted energy, while dedication and consistency will always bear fruit.
