Urban Vault caught up with London based rising star J Webb to ask her about her latest release PAY ATTENTION & more…
‘Pay Attention’ is the latest single from London power vocalist J Webb, featuring rapper Honours Tea. Described as Rihanna meets Anne Marie, J Webb is a no-messing force of nature who embodies female empowerment and self-reliance.
The young singer says, “Pay Attention is a female bedroom anthem, showing your lover you’re not taking a backseat – his full attention is needed from start to finish. I had a lot of fun building the track and have even more fun performing it”.
J Webb is a self-employed model, performer, and businesswoman who is as savvy as she is sassy.
She says, “as an artist, I want my music to serve the same qualities which I needed as a child, an expression of all emotions and most importantly the love of self…. strong, confident, sexually confident and above all, true to how I feel… no sugar coating”.
From an early age, music truly served its purpose in J Webb’s life. She was dependent on music to help her cope with strong emotions, happy, sad, in love or angry… music always held the invisible answer. J Webb was an instant hit as a model and she has driven her own career from the start.
She says, “being a self-employed woman was the greatest gift I could have given to myself. But now I’m ready to make music again”.
J Webb reconnected with a producer she’d known since she was 16. The pair had worked on a demo together which landed J Webb a deal with Sony. The leading track Down and Dirty was a huge success and won J Webb a loyal fan base in countries all over the world. Now on her own label, J Webb is unstoppable. Pay Attention to this fresh new talent…
Welcome to UV UK J Webb, how are you today?
Hello nice to meet you, I’m very well thank you.
Can you tell us a bit about how you got into music, how you got signed to Sony and what you are up to now?
I got into music age 15 that’s when I came across my current producer and we started making music, I love creating and exploring my voice at the studio that’s when I knew I wanted to be a singer. School and work was the priority back then so I had to leave music to secure my life, at a much later date me and my producer got back together and made a demo which landed me a singles deal with Sony.
How do you describe your current sound?
The Urban side has a Hip Hop/R&B vibe my dance music has elements of EDM and classic dance anthems, I don’t want to put myself in a box as I believe music should be explored fully explored.
Who are your biggest influences?
I love the sound and tone of Usher he has a smooth voice with wide vocal abilities, as an R&B singer, he has crossed over to dance comfortably. I aim to hit both categories, not holding back I would like to explore all.
How do you manage to find the time to make music alongside your successful adult modelling career?
I own my own production company Jasminewebb.xxx most of the content has been shot over 10 years so all I need to do is up load, it’s an easy industry for me as most of my work is online I WebCam from my site talk with my fans this brings me a very good income. Being in control of my time allows me to arrange studio time to continue my journey through music.
How have you found the response by the music industry and fans to your adult modelling business?
I feel as though I’m getting a good response, some people are slightly confused and not understanding if I’m being serious or just doing it for the sake of doing it. I’m more than happy to prove my musical abilities, over the years this will shine through, I see my musical journey as a marathon, not a race so intend on taking my time.
What are your low-lights and highlights of your life as a musician so far?
Low lights must be the amount of time it’s taking me to get back to music I needed to build my life buy a house have money in the bank normal security, highlights of my musical career would have to be getting signed to Sony shooting music videos having my fans hear the end result. Finally be on this path of music it’s truly fulfilling, living your dreams is something not many people get to experience so I’m humbled and grateful all at the same time.
What is your life motto?
You are what you think you are!
Tell us about your current single Pay Attention, how has the response been from fans?
This single is very sexual high energy in your face, my fans expected nothing less so I had to deliver. ‘Pay attention’ represents the woman’s position in the bedroom there are so many things to distract, iPhone’s, television, work stress, when she decides to put on a show for you it’s time to pay attention it’s really that simple.
What does 2018 hold for you, can we expect more music?
2018 can expect a remix plus more music now that I’ve started I don’t intend to stop.
Thank you for your time and may you carry on making dope, fresh music…
