Urban Vault Interviews – Icy Chill

Urban Vault caught up with West London, UK-based recording artist Icy Chill to ask him questions about his latest album ROCK OUT THE TRUTH, and more…

Hailing from the UK, Icy Chill discovered his passion for Hip Hop during his teenage years, a period marked by the profound loss of his parents. Hip Hop became a lifeline for him, offering a means to express and navigate the complexities of life. After a decade since his previous album, Hip Hop innovator Icy Chill has returned to share a brand-new skill set and a light-hearted attitude in his album ‘Rock Out The Truth‘.

What is your name and where are you from?

Hi, I’m Sailesh a.k.a Icy Chill. I’m from West London, UK.

How old are you?

I’m 35 years old.

How long have you been making music?

Properly… I would say from 2005, so 19 years. It’s been on and off. I did take a long time out during that time too. It hasn’t been something I’ve constantly done.

How many tracks/albums have you released to date?

I would say two proper albums, and many songs outside of that. I can’t give a number. I mean there was a lot of messing around trying to find myself through that.

Can you tell us about your latest album ‘Rock Out The Truth‘, the background, and the inspirations behind it?

So my latest album ‘Rock out the Truth’ is my comeback album. I hadn’t done any new music for ten years. The album is generally a reflection/an evaluation of the affects and effects from tough times I had lived and what I had learnt. I also threw in some comedy into the mix.

How have you ended up in the music industry?

Just by doing what I enjoy, expressing myself, expressing what I have learnt and putting it out there. I like being creative it’s important to me and by just doing the whole process I can lose myself in it. If people like it that’s great, if they don’t, I still feel to do it.. it’s like therapy to me. It’s cool for me personally and if people can relate and connect to it, it’s part of them too.

What do you think of the music industry in 2024?

Today, it’s a lot better for independent artists to get their stuff out and manage themselves. There’s a lot more space for underground music to get heard more. I think we can be more artistic, expressive and less confined due to the modern technologies that we have.

What have you got planned for the rest of 2024?

Maybe look to do a music video, look to make more music and just enjoy the journey of it.

What inspires you when you make your music?

Just my experiences and the need to express them in an artistic way, and the feeling of enjoying it.

Who have you collaborated with so far in your career?

Mainly friends.

Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?

Good people where we connect.

What’s your favourite track at the moment?

I will be honest, I’ve been enjoying listening to some old-school stuff, so I’m out of touch with the current charts.

What do you do when you’re not making music?

Drink haha, software development, and family.

Which do you prefer, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram?

Instagram because it’s more to the point.

In a few words sum up your thoughts about Urban Vault and what we’re trying to do.

It’s great for shining some light on underground music and getting uncommercial real stuff out there.

Thank you for your time and may you carry on making dope, fresh music…

Thank you for having me.
